Top 10 Benefits of Food Minimalism

Top 10 Benefits of Food Minimalism

BLUF:  Here are some of the benefits of meal planning and prepping aka food minimalism.

10.  Feel accomplished
When you practice a new skill over and over it eventually becomes your normal behavior.  The same is true for food minimalism.  The feeling of accomplishment when you no longer throw out trash cans full of food waste and know you are eating healthier is a feeling you will grow to love.

9.  Be prepared
When you practice food minimalism, you learn how to be prepared to cook all your meals in advance using the few ingredients you have on hand.  Meal prepping is the ultimate way to be prepared for all of your daily meals and minimize the waste you have been so used to.  Pretty soon you will find yourself using this skill in other areas of your life.

8.  Reduce stress
The workweek is stressful enough without having to worry about eating healthy meals and saving money.  With meal planning and prepping you will find that you no longer worry about what you are taking for lunch or what you will be preparing for dinner.  Following your meal plan schedule takes one less thing off of your mind.

7.  Practice better planning
The heart of food minimalism is planning.  You must create a meal plan for the week, buy the ingredients, and meal prep all in advance.  It only takes a couple of weeks before you will realize how easy it is and how much better you feel.  Believe it or now…improved planning starts to occur in other areas of your life as well.

6.  Grow your creativity
Meal planning requires some creativity in the kitchen.  You have to figure out how to use fewer ingredients in more meals.  You learn how to use that broccoli for breakfast, lunch and dinner!  Sometimes this requires creativity.  You will find yourself trying dishes that you never thought would work and you will be amazed at all the new flavor combinations you will find.

5.  Become a better cook
Speaking of new flavor combinations…you are going to realize what herbs are best with which vegetables or what cheese pairs better with your selected cut of meat.  You might even find yourself looking up new recipes.  All of this is great for becoming a better cook and increasing your kitchen knowledge.

4.  Save time
It may seem like a daunting task to plan and prep all of your meals a week in advance and you might be asking how this is going to save you time.  By having all of your fruits and veggies cut up at once frees that time on those busy work nights.  If all you need to do is get home and throw everything in a pan to cook, then the time saved is huge.

3.  Lose weight
Not everyone wants to lose weight but most people at least want to maintain their weight.  By meal planning you eliminate those fast food drive bys or the quick candy bar snack.  You will plan your healthier meals in advance and they will be ready to go every day.  You plan and prep for your diet and it is so much easier to stick with it.

2.  Eat healthier
Speaking of losing weight…how about just eating healthier in general.  Prepping your own meals will minimize the number of food additives you consume.  You will know your food and know what you are putting into your body.

1.    Save money
Finally, if nothing else, you will save a ton of money!  The heart of food minimalism is eliminating food waste.  You will eventually cut your grocery bill in half and will no longer blow your money on fast food.  You seriously will save a lot of money and all it takes is a little planning!

Lessons Learned:  It isn’t going to be easy at first but the benefits make it worth the effort!
